The most unusual season

Before the new season, the roster of HC Meshkov Brest was significantly updated - seven new players joined the team. The role of the head coach was entrusted to assistant of Manolo Cadenas Raul Alonso, who was to make his debut as a head coach in the group stage of the Champions League.

Unfortunately, the club made not a good start. In addition to subjective reasons, there were objective reasons: it took time for the newcomers to adept, and some leaders (Marko Panic and Sandro Obranovic) received serious injuries and remained out of the game for a long time. Meshkov Brest lost the Champions League matches against Porto, Montpellier and Vive. And in the national championship, the first meeting with SKA Minsk also was lost.

However, closer to the winter period, the team corrected the situation and gained a good move. In November, at the Victoria sportshall, the team defeated the current winner of the Champions League Vardar (31:22) (Mikita Vailupau scored 12 goals). And later, in February, there were also victories over Motor in Zaporozhye (36:33) and the first ever success against Kiel in Brest (33:30) (the enchanting match was held by Ivan Matskevich). Unfortunatly, the points lost at the start did not allow the fifth consecutive year to get into the Champions League playoffs. Nevertheless, as it turned out later, even if Meshkov Brest had been among the six best teams of its group, the club would still not have played in the knockout round, since it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In the domestic championship Meshkov Brest had 24 wins in 25 matches. Due to the epidemiological situation, the championship of Belarus ended ahead of schedule - five rounds to the finish line, and Brest was declared the champion by current results in the table. This gold medal became the twelfth in the history of the club.

In the SEHA League, the team also confidently spent the second half of the season. In the first round of the playoffs, the newcomer to the tournament, Beijing Sports University (BSU) was twice defeated - 46:26 and 41:23. And in the quarter-finals, our club did not leave a chance to the Motor (30:28 and 33:28) and reached the Final Four for the eighth consecutive year. However, the Final Four was also canceled and moved to the beginning of the 2020/21 season. The same fate befell the Cup of Belarus.
